Many existing homeowners choose summer time to spruce up their homes and make upgrades or improvements. While some home features, such as formal living rooms, have waned in popularity as of late, there are several common improvement projects that consumers still turn toward, to increase space and improve their real estate value.
Storage space
Built-in bookshelves, separate laundry rooms and additional shelving are popular alterations homeowners are seeking to maximize every square inch of their home’s space, according to Marketwatch. Having enough space to accommodate all of a household’s belongings can be trying over the years, and houses that are equipped with built-in storage spaces or additional rooms can be enticing to homeowners. In addition, many of these remodels are cost-effective and can be completed quickly.
Guest bedroom
Whether it be a current room in the house or conversion of a basement or attic into a spare room, having an additional bedroom has become increasingly important to households. Some use the rooms for when guests stay or during holidays. Others rely on the additional space to house elderly parents that move in or adult children who move home for a period of time. In addition, these rooms can also serve as playrooms for young children, which parents often utilize when they don’t want toys spread throughout the house.
Office space/library
Millions of Americans work from home during the day or after work hours, so having a separate space to complete office tasks away from the noise of the house itself has been a popular upgrade for years. Many homeowners also get creative with these spaces by using bookcases to partition part of the room off from the desk and add chaise lounges and oversized furniture. This can give an office a cozy library feel and add an element of relaxation when individuals are in work mode.
Family dining space
Many households are placing an added emphasis on the kitchen area and incorporating bars or dining spaces for more family time. The kitchen is one of the most heavily used areas in the home and now some individuals are opening these areas up to face living rooms or widening the space for kitchen tables. This allows families to spend more time together even when individuals are cooking or cleaning up.
